Growing up in Georgia, I learned early that determination, hard work, and a commitment to lifelong learning matter more than titles or credentials. My father, despite never graduating from high school, became one of the world's leading experts in azalea propagation, while my mother rose from clerk typist to a management role with Southern Bell. Their example shaped my belief that success is earned through curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to keep growing.

Those lessons served me well throughout a business career spanning more than four decades. After becoming a dealership's top salesperson at age 19, I accepted my first management position at 23 and helped lead a struggling Ford dealership from last place to first in sales volume in the Memphis market in just 45 days. A year later, I became a general manager at age 24—the youngest employee on the payroll—and helped guide another dealership from last to first among nine metropolitan-area competitors. Additional business turnarounds, startups, and growth initiatives followed, and I was fortunate to see them all succeed. Along the way, I learned what would become the most valuable lesson of my life: success is ultimately built on relationships, and the value of the people in your life surpasses all else.

After marrying my wife, Marian, a former swimmer at Clemson and very successful in the fitness business, we started a training business in our garage, which quickly grew to a multi-location fitness business dedicated to helping people improve their health and quality of life. Following the sale of that business, I was able to devote time to long-standing passions for writing, history, publishing, and storytelling. Those interests led to more than 100 published articles, writing books on business and personal development, publishing ventures that reached millions of readers, a nationally ranked podcast, public speaking opportunities, and interviews with musicians, actors, athletes, business leaders, and historical figures. I have also been fortunate to set multiple SkiErg world records, reinforcing my belief that age should never limit personal goals.

Today, I continue to write, publish, speak, and pursue projects focused on education, history, business, and community service. Whether through media, historical preservation, charitable initiatives, or mentoring others, my goal remains simple: keep learning, keep sharing, and leave things a little better than I found them.
